From the past...

"That is a name I have not heard in many years."

The four of them were crowded in Buck's workshop, watching the older man's brow knit in confusion. "Last time I heard of this Beloved cult was before your parents died, C.J." He looked at her with an expression of regret and sorrow, and a lot of apology.

Siege stiffened at the mention of her parents, but didn't say anything. Hitomi put a hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "Why would they surface now? And why would they need to know you were still out there?"

"Hmm. Most likely because last time I saw them, they were fleeing from their burning temple."

Siege smiled a bit, "Did their leader have a jackal mask?"

Buck shook his head, "No. Back then they all wore Egyptian robes, despite not one of them actually being Egyptian. They certainly didn't wear military garb and attack places." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "They pretty much said the raids were decoys?"

Hitomi nodded, "Yeah. Me and C.J. were talking about that, too. None of it seemed right. The whole thing was a bit creepy."

"Their leader, this Hem-Netjer Tepey, seemed to know you." Alana said quietly. "The whole things seemed to be a challenge to you."

He nodded, "Yeah. Sounds like whatever new management they picked up has gotten ambitious. They say anything else?"

"'Tell him to beware. The gods of death always reap their due.' I have no idea what he meant, Buck." Siege said softly.

“Are you sure that’s what he said?” he asked softly. All four nodded. Buck sighed. “Did they give any indication what they wanted?” All four shook their heads. “Alright. Good job. Now, if you don’t mind, I need some time to collect my thoughts.”

They exchanged glances and nodded as they silently filed out of the room, leaving their mentor to his thoughts.
