This is how you build a nuclear bomb...

Siege grabbed her radio immediately, “Buck, come in. We’ve got a problem.”

She quickly filled him in. “By thunder! Good work, child, I’ll send some reinforcements, just in case. Blow the console.”

        “You sure?”

“Yes. I’ll send someone to the next sites on the list. They’ve already got some of the plans, we can’t let them get anymore.”

“On it!” She clicked off and called to Hitomi, “Need your C4! Buck says blow it.”

“You got it.” With methodical quickness, they wired the console and the entrances, and made for the door, and wired that one too. They sprinted back to the ladder and climbed out. Just is case, they wired up some of the tunnel with the last of their explosives. They got the store owner out of the building just in case and blew the room and tunnel when they were outside. The muffled thunder was heard for miles and shook the ground like an earthquake. The building erupted with dust, and the women winced as the owner stood with his mouth open.

Siege put an hand on the man’s shoulder, “Bill the BW Institute. We’ll take care of the damage and remodeling.” The man nodded, clearly still in shock. Siege nodded to Hitomi who put a card into the owner’s hand, closing the limp appendage around it.

‘Omi hit Siege’s arm lightly with the back of her hand and motioned toward their truck. “You think that was it? Plans for a bomb?”

“I don’t know. But somehow I don’t think so It’s too,” she paused, looking for the right word.

“Easy?” Siege nodded. “Yeah. I think so too.” Hitomi shook her head. “I dunno, Cyn. This whole thing smells funny. There’s easier, quieter ways to get plans to a bomb. Even nuclear.”

Again, Siege nodded. “Let’s see if we can get some info off of the other consoles, assuming that’s what they’re after at the other places.”

“Yeah, but they never saw anything at the other sites. You found that latch easy enough.”

“Hmm. Good point. Disabled the latch once they were done? They do seem to be tricky.”

‘Omi rolled her eyes, “What makes you say that, oh great seer?”

Siege snorted, “Just the fact that they had small teams out in the open as a distraction while the real work was going on. C’mon. Radio Buck and let him know what we’re doing. I want to hit the docks again.”

Hitomi nodded and clicked her radio. Buck agreed and diverted the backup to the docks, and arranged to have the dock manager let them in. They drove to the dock in companionable silence, both lost in their own thoughts. By the time they arrived, their backup, Jeremy King and his partner Alana Sherwood, were waiting for them. Siege filled them in, Jeremy in wide eyed interest, and Alana in wide eyed interest in Jeremy. Of course Jerry was oblivious. Hitomi laughed ruefully to herself. ‘Welcome to my world, kid’, she thought.

The dock manager showed them the dock’s entrance to the tunnel network, which was inside a utility shed.

“Yeah, it was hidden behind a couple of tool pallets. Strangest thing. None of the guys ever noticed.”

Hitomi smiled, “Yeah, usually how this stuff works. Thanks, we’ll be out of your hair as quick as we can. If we need you, we’ll give you a call.”

“No hurry, kiddo. The place is shutdown until Homeland Security does an audit anyway.” The man turned and shuffled away to his office.

Alana tore her eyes from the back of Jeremy’s head to smile at Hitomi, “Kiddo? Please don’t kill him!” She laughed gaily, her Oxford accent drawing looks from the few dock workers still loitering around. ‘Omi stuck her tongue out at her and crossed her eyes playfully, earning a giggle from the younger woman.

“Alright, ‘kids’, enough horsing around,” Siege smirked at raised a brow, “lets take a look down this rabbit hole.” The other three sobered quickly, especially Alana, who was suddenly all business, not even glancing at Jeremy. Siege and Hitomi shared a look. “Okay, I’ll take point, Alana and Jerry, you’ll take the middle, ‘Omi guards our six.” They all nodded and filed down into the shed and down into the tunnel.
