I would walk 500 miles...

500 miles south of McMurdo Station, Antarctica

Unlike the crawler they used in Greenland, this one belonged to Buck. It was heated, and quieter than the standard crawler. Once on their way to the coordinates Buck relayed, they took turns sleeping. Neither of them were strangers to long trips out to check things out.

Once they approached their destination, they stopped the crawler and bundled up. Their thermal suits worked to a degree, but in Antarctica it only went so far. They had state of the art cold weather gear and they were still cold. Carefully, they went over the area.

It didn’t take long to find the signs of a concealed entrance, and a small stone obelisk, mostly buried in snow and ice. It showed signs of wear and tear and looked as it had part of the facing chipped away. They looked at each other and went back to the crawler.

Once back inside, they cranked the heat. “What do you think, Siege?”

“I think there’s more here than they let on in that letter.”

“Yeah, I figured that.” She thought for a moment. “Hey you remember that so-called ‘Fourth Reich’ base we busted a couple years back?”

        Siege nodded, “What about it?”

“I dunno. It was set in a mountain, right?” Once C.J. nodded, she went on, “Wasn’t there a small obelisk like that there too?”

Slowly, Siege nodded. “I think so. That one had a swastika on it though.”

“Yes! Did you notice this one looked like it had it’s facing shipped away?”

“It... did, didn’t it? Could this Anubis cult have found an old Nazi base?”

“I think they did. Like rats, those Nazis. Everywhere.”

C.J. laughed, “Yeah. I’d call then roaches though.”

“Because they won’t die!” They said together, laughing.

They settled back to watch, getting hot chocolate to drink. After a few hours, Hitomi laughed quietly.

        “What?”

“Nothing, just... it feels like the old days. Sitting back and doing long surveillance. Haven’t needed to do this in a long time.”

Siege smiled, “Yeah. Haven’t run into a group that really put an effort into hiding themselves in quite a while. Most times they’re so arrogant, they don’t bother to hide their bases anymore.”

“True...,” Hitomi sobered, “I guess that’s why these guys worry me a bit. They’re awfully hared to track. Not only did they feel confident enough to give us coordinates, but invite us down here.”

C.J. nodded, “Of course it’s a trap. We still need to check it out, as we talked with Buck about. I just hope we can get in and out without being detected.”

As if on cue, the ground beneath them rumbled and began to sink.

        “The hell??” Hitomi said.

“Obviously, we’ve been detected.” Siege said calmly.

        “Oh crap.”

Both women held their breath as the crawler was swallowed up by the antarctic ice.
