What a twist.

The guards escorted them to an enormous room. Hitomi had a hard time seeing the ceiling, but she did notice conduits and groups of wiring running high up on the walls. She must have been moving too slow, because the guard behind her gave her a vicious shove. She was going to turn around and slug the toad, but Siege caught her eye and minutely shook her head. Instead, she snarled at the guard in Japanese, who just laughed.

The guards stopped them in front of a wide dais with an obvious throne. It didn’t take long for the significance of this to sink in. Hitomi leaned in to C.J., “Well, I guess that answers the question if this guy has a god complex.” C.J. smirked, but the guard wasn’t amused. He slammed the butt of his gun into Hitomi’s back. “Quiet, worm.”

Hitomi whirled and narrowed her eyes. “Do that again, and you don’t want to know where I’ll put that gun.”

The guard backed up a pace, earning snickers from the other guards. He snarled and raised the weapon when a voice rang out.

“Stop! I told you, they were not to be harmed. He looked down on Siege and Hitomi. Or they guessed he did, through the jackal mask. ”I am sorry. I take hospitality very seriously. You are my guests.“

        ”Guests in a prison cell.“

He seemed amused, ”A horse a piece, Miss McCormick. I can’t have you roaming around, nor can I have you feeling too comfortable. I want you on your guard.“

The two friends glanced at each other. ”Right,“ Hitomi replied, drawing the word out. ”So, since you obviously wanted us here, and were more ready for us then we for you, what do you want.“

”Isn’t it obvious? I want a meeting with Mister Washington. I believe I am owed reparations for his destruction of our first temple. That,“ the man paused and lowered his head, ”and I need his help.“

C.J. blinked a few times. She was getting irritated at how often this man was surprising her. ”Excuse me?“

”Our way of life is dying. I know that. We were on the decline long before the initial run in with your mentor.“ He sounded very bitter. He swept his hand, taking in his surroundings. ”What I’ve built here, is more military than spiritual. These guards you see are the last that are loyal to me alone. The rest.“ He paused again, sounding tired. ”The rest are loyal to a man I thought would help me. Instead, be took what I built and handed it over to the Fourth Reich.“

        ”Oh boy,“ Hitomi whispered.

”Oh boy indeed, Miss Onoe. I’ve managed to keep this one base under my influence, but that will not be the case for long.“

”I understand your position, but Im not sure what Buck can do to help.“

”Simple, Miss McCormick. I won’t be able to reclaim what I once had, therefore this Fourth Reich cannot be allowed to have it either.“
