Don't You Love It...

CJ ran a critical eye over the tent and its contents. There was no cover, and few places to hide things, though she knew that meant little. She motioned her two companions closer and talked in a low voice.
“The first thing we need to do, is get out of here and back into the tomb. I would feel better about getting to the bottom of this if we can get away with more than just a scrap of paper.”
“How are,” CJ interrupted Mitchell and motioned for him to be quieter, “How are we supposed to get out of this tent, much less back into the tomb?” He jabbed a thumb at the door with the obvious and ever-present shadows of their guards.
“Well, there used to be natives that lived in the canyon, right?”
Mitchell eyed Hitomi with skepticism, “Sure, long time ago.”
“Yeah, but the caves and structures are still here, yeah?”
“For the most part sure,” he paused, thinking, “Right, and most cave systems are interlocking. Hmn. We’d need to know which cave leads where. There are no exits from inside the tomb though.”
“It’s all brickwork.”
“And any exits could have been closed up to protect from grave robbers. Of course.” He shook his head and looked from Hitomi to CJ, “How do you keep clear heads in this situation.”
“Practice, Mitchell. Now, as for getting out of this tent,” CJ eyed the shadows of the guards. “What do you think, partner?”
“I think we should make sure our obvious guards are really that obvious. Though to be honest, while I don’t want to underestimate him, our friend the general thinks quite well of himself and his opinions. This might be easier than I thought.”
“Let’s keep things cautious, though. I’m not confident we’re unobserved.”
As if on cue, the officious looking man walked in, his clipboard at the ready. He eyed them with obvious distaste and made a note on his clipboard. “What are you whispering about?” His words were clipped and to the point.
“Whatever it was, it doesn’t concern you Garrett.”
“Watch yourself, Carroll. It won’t take much to convince the General to summarily execute the three of you at this point.”
“If it’ll make your voice stop, then I’d welcome it.”
Garrett smiled just as cruelly as General Douglas had earlier, “Be careful what you wish for, Doctor. We’re watching.” He turned and walked out.
“Friend of yours?” Hitomi asked lightly.
Mitchell looked like he had bitten into a lemon. “He’s been a problem since I got here. I’m pretty sure he hates me simply because the General does.”
CJ nodded. “Well, we know we’re being watched. Unless that was a really good bluff.”
Mitchell laughed, “I doubt he’s that imaginative.”
“Right. We need to know where the cameras are.” She looked at Hitomi.
“We may not need to.” She tapped her belt.
“What did you bring?”
Hitomi shrugged and grinned, “Just being prepared. Let’s get a plan together, partner.”
