Home Invasion
(Author’s Note: Hey, it’s still Monday! And apparently my Modem/Router combination sucks... yes, I’m making excuses.)

The first priority was to get the kids to safety.
As soon as the first rocket barrage hit the side of the Institute, the teachers, medical staff, the four operatives, Buck, and Mitchell went into action. Buck treated each and every kid there as his own, especially the ones who had no family outside of the institute. The uncharacteristic rage on the man’s face spelled trouble for the attackers.
Once the children were inside the safety of the underground shelter, Buck called everyone together. “Alright. The teachers are watching the doors, the medical staff are treating the thankfully small injuries. The rest of us are going to teach these ruffians why you don’t go after children. Ever.”
Everyone nodded, CJ’s eyes were hard as diamonds. She looked around. Everyone had murder in their eyes. Even Mitchell, though his rage was warring with uncertainty about how he could help. “We can go to the ballistics lab. We can get some heavy hardware there.”
Buck nodded. “Good. Let’s get moving.”
As they headed off, Mitchell caught up to her, “We have a ballistics lab?”

The panel slid back, letting CJ poke her head out into the hallway. It was a mess. The attackers had been thorough as they rampaged through the Institute. CJ motioned all clear and slipped out. She heard HItomi’s low whistle behind her.
“I think they don’t like us, partner.”
CJ snorted. “You think?” She padded to the end of the hallway and looked around the corner. “Clear. The lab is just around the corner.”
More explosions shook the building as CJ keyed open the door. “Alright, pick your poison.” She flipped on the lights, revealing several rows of guns and a couple of rocket launchers. She heard Mitchell choke a little behind her.
“Why do you have so many weapons?”
“Confiscated, my boy. When we have to raid a terrorist group, we take the weapons and deliver them to the local authorities. We just never had a chance to make the delivery yet.”
Mitchell blinked. “That’s awfully convenient, isn’t it?”
Buck’s grin was predatory. “Isn’t it though? Now let’s grab the heaviest we can and show our guests the door.”

It wasn’t hard to catch up with their uninvited guests. The attackers advanced through the buildings in a methodical destruction spree. It seemed that if they couldn’t take out any people, they would raze the building instead.
Buck and CJ looked around the corner, spotting the robots. Buck turned to the group and pointed to Alana and Jeremy, who had the rocket launchers. “First shot, take out the sensor pods. Second, aim for the waist joint.” They nodded and moved to fire as he looked at CJ and Hitomi, “You handle the soldiers, I’ll put a few of Hitomi’s bullets into the robots.”
CJ nodded, “Be careful of the weapons. The one that attacked me had some type of motion trigger, and I don’t know how sensitive it is.”
Buck nodded once. “Thank you. Don’t plan on getting that close.” He smiled. “Let’s go.”
“What do I do?” Mitchell stood there, awkwardly holding a handgun.
“Do you know how to use it?” CJ’s voice was quiet. He shook his head. “Then stay back. I know you want to help. You can by staying safe.”
He nodded. “When things calm down, I think it might be wise to teach me how to handle a gun.”
CJ smiled, “Yeah, it’ll be a date.” She gave him a quick peck on the cheek then stood next to Buck.
Buck tapped Alana and Jerry on the shoulder, signaling them to fire. While the first shots connected, they reloaded as quickly as possible and fired at the robots midsection. Both machines went down, as the soldiers began turning and firing down the hallway at the group.
The soldiers didn’t utter a word as they were firing. Unfortunately for them, the havoc they caused in the halls eliminated any cover they might have had. They were professionals though, each laying down cover fire as their comrades reloaded.
One by one, the soldiers fell. Hitomi and CJ aimed for non-vital areas when they could, but they knew a few of the men would probably not make it. Finally, the last man fell, clutching his side.
Quickly, they disarmed the men, Buck taking the time to fire into the robots, just to make sure. He ordered Jerry to call the authorities, and the young man left quickly, almost as if he was eager to be somewhere else.
Buck went over to CJ and Hitomi, who were patching up who they could with first-aid kits. He pulled them aside. “Girls, when we get these people into custody, I want to arrange it so than you can interrogate one of them. Then it will be up to you to take care of things.” They both nodded.
“I’ll do the questioning.” CJ’s expression was cold. She looked down at one of the men she had bandaged up. “I’ll even try to be nice.”
